Love this piece so much Michael. It is so true! I just watched the documentary, Echo in the Canyon about the music in Laurel Canyon in LA in the mid sixties. The Byrds were inspired by the Beatles and The Beach Boys. The Beatles then riffed off of the Byrds. Buffalo Springfield was riffing off the Beatles and The Beach Boys. Eric Clapton wrote a song using chords he heard from a fellow musician. In Bob Dylan’s early music days he would reuse melodies and recreate songs with his own words, it had been done for centuries. Being inspired by, building on, what has come before through your unique expression, it’s evolution, YES!
